MALVERN’S Evie Richards has been shortlisted for one of cycling’s most prestigious awards following a fantastic 2016 – and she needs your votes to win it.
The talented 19-year-old is one of several cyclists including stars from the Rio Olympics to be up for British Cycling’s Ride of the Year gong.
The winner of the award will receive Cycle Industry’s Golden Jubilee Trophy, presented at the annual British Cycling Gala Dinner.
Evie has been nominated for her historic efforts in January when she became the first ever under 23 women’s cyclo-cross world champion.
In terrible conditions in Belgium, Richards dominated the race to take the lead at the end of the first lap before cruising to victory.

Voting closes at 5pm on Sunday, December 18, with the winner announced on Monday, December 19.
Evie is up against Rachel Atherton, Lauren Hookway, Women’s Team Pursuit (Rio Olympics), Rebecca Raybould, Sophie Wright, Bethany Shriever, Jason Kenny (Rio Olympics), Kadeena Cox (Rio Olympics), Steve Bate, Manon Lloyd, Katie Archibald and Jon Dibben.
British Cycling president Bob Howden said: “British cyclists have enjoyed an incredible 2016 and narrowing the list of contenders down to 12 has been an incredibly tough decision.
“The success enjoyed by our riders across all the disciplines is something that everyone who supports cycling in the UK can be incredibly proud of.
“Every candidate on the list has enjoyed some incredible moments over the last year and would all be worthy winners.”
Previous winners of the award include Lizzie Deignan (née Armitstead), Sir Bradley Wiggins, Danny Hart, Josh Bryceland and Lora Turnham and her pilot Corrine Hall.
