MALVERN’S popular annual basketball clinic for youngsters has returned for its third successful year.

The Hillside Hoops basketball clinic welcomed more than 40 children to Victoria Park’s state-of-the-art facilities on Saturday (August 24) for a day of focused coaching.

Hillside Hoops was founded by former England U-16s and U-18s and Worcester Wolves basketballer, Matt Wurmli, a few years back.

Each event provides completely free access for children who go home with free clothing, goody bags, equipment and even better basketball skills.

At the end of the session, trophies are presented for most valuable player, hardest worker and most improved player.

Matt told the Standard: “It’s my passion to give something back to the community. I am a former England and Worcester Wolves basketball player, when I started there was nothing here except one hoop in the town.

“Now we have some of the best facilities in the country. My hope is we continue to grow this event which the children really look forward to every year.”

The basketball boot camps are made possible with support from local organisations and a team of volunteers.

This year’s event was sponsored by local organisations including Worcester based free course provider GLP Training, detection technology company Metrasens, and international network provider Connected Networks.
