WORCESTERSHIRE’s Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS) has been handed a £1,000 boost thanks to regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The shelter was rewarded with the four-figure sum from the firm’s Community Champions scheme to enable it to continue more than two decades of giving animals the love and care they deserve.

A vital lifeline for abandoned, unwanted and mistreated animals for more than 20 years, WARS focuses on rehoming dogs, cats and ex battery hens, with the aim of helping as many animals as possible. Christopher Hermiston from Worcestershire

Animal Rescue Shelter said: “The last two years and the impact of the pandemic has hit us hard.

“As with many other charities, we were unable to organise or participate in any charity events which are crucial to our fund-raising activities.

“All our cats and dogs are assessed by our local veterinary practice and receive essential treatments including vaccinations, neutering and microchipping.

“The welfare of the animals is our utmost priority and we ensure they undergo any essential medical procedures, such as dental care, lump removals and operations, all of which come at an additional cost.

“On average our monthly vet bills are between £2,000 to £3,000 and we also have the usual running and utilities costs, needed to ensure the shelter is efficiently run every day of the year.

Amanda Rogers, sales director for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said she hoped the money would go some way to helping the shelter to continue its work.
