A MAN has died following a head on road crash in Upton.

The 34-year-old was declared dead at the scene following the incident which happened about 7.40pm Monday (March 31) on Welland Road.

Police have yet to name the man but confirmed he was from the Upton area.

The incident occurred when his green MG sports car collided with a blue Volkswagen Golf driven by a 21-year-old man who sustained minor injuries.

Police closed the road until the early hours of the morning whilst the investigations into the circumstances of the crash took place and for the scene to be cleared.

Officers have also called on witnesses of the incident to contact them immediately.

The Worcestershire coroner has been informed and an inquest is due to be opened.

PC Ben Wharton from West Mercia Police, said: “Residents and other road users were very quickly on the scene, but sadly it was clear that nothing could be done for the driver of the MG.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the dead man. A specially trained family liaison officer has been appointed, and will be keeping them updated on the progress of the inquiry.”

Anyone with information on the incident or saw the vehicles prior to the collision should call PC Wharton on 101 using the reference number 652-s-310314.
