MALVERN Retail Park could be set for a multi-million pound revamp to give it a new look and make it stand out from other centres in the south of the county.
Consolidate Property Group (CPG) has applied for permission to upgrade the outside of the Townsend Way park to stave off the threat from nearby shopping parks and new schemes, including the £150million Worcester Woods proposal.
A spokesman for CPG said: “We have submitted a planning application to undertake works to upgrade the front of the units within the retail park.
“These are required to bring the shopping centre up to modern day standards and are part of our ongoing programme to ensure the retail park is a modern and vibrant shopping destination.
“As owners, we are committed to maintaining high standards for our tenants and to ensure that Malvern Retail Park maintains its position within the local shopping hierarchy and is resilient to threats from other nearby centres and new schemes such as the Worcester Woods proposals.
“The works are part of a multi-million pound on-going investment in the Retail Park by CPG.”
Work would include re-cladding the entrances and the glazed canopy and other works to create the new appearance.
The shopping park, which was created in the mid 1990s, is currently home to retail giants Marks & Spencer, Halfords, New Look, Next, Argos, Boots and Matalan.
McDonald’s, Morrisons, Burton and Brantano also occupy space on the site.
An application submitted by CPG to Malvern Hills District Council stated: “The works will greatly improve the public face of the development, creating a scheme of unified appearance.”
