MBE for emergency doctor

Malvern Editorial 31st Dec, 2013 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A DOCTOR who responds to emergencies across Worcestershire and Herefordshire has been awarded an MBE.

Dr Malcolm Russell was named in the New Year’s Honours list for services to emergency medicine, just a year after he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for voluntary work with the emergency services.

He often responds for West Midlands Ambulance Service as a BASICS emergency doctor as part of the Mercia Accident Rescue Service and has also been deployed to natural disasters such as the Japanese Tsunami and Christchurch earthquakes.

Dr Russell said: “I feel very humbled to have been awarded an MBE when I work with so many other well-deserving individuals who are so dedicated to looking after our patients. For me, this represents collective appreciation for the work we all do as a team.

“I am very happy to be a cog in the machine that is the West Midlands Ambulance Service and, in particular, would like to thank my family and my colleagues in the Mercia Accident Rescue Service for their years of support and dedication too.”
