A SPRING which dates back to the Middle Ages has been rediscovered in West Malvern.
An investigation of the north-west section of the Malvern Hills by the Friends of Malvern Springs and Wells has revealed the presence of a Medieval Waumswell.
The source of the Waumswell lies at the head of the valley near Danzell Cottage at the rear of 151 West Malvern Road.
This is not to be confused with the Walms Well which is to the south of British Camp.
Bruce Osbourne, of the Friends, said: “We never really considered the Waumswell a significant discovery until our friend George Demidowicz did some research.
“Springs and wells create a lot of interest with local residents and tourists.
“They are a tourist attraction and it was a nice rediscovery for the Malvern Hills.”
Up until now, the Danzell Spring on the north-west side of the Malvern Hills had been the only celebrated spring in that area since the 19th century.
Water still flows from the Waumswell but only when the water table is high.
