GOVERNORS at The Chase School have announced Mike Fieldhouse as the new headteacher.
Mr Fieldhouse, who has been at the Geraldine Road school for more than 20 years, was appointed as acting head in February after Richard Jacobs was placed on special leave before he resigned in April.
No reason was given for the resignation.
Chair of govenors Matt May released a statement yesterday (Thursday) which said the appointment of Mr Fieldhouse as head will bring much-needed stability to The Chase following months of uncertainty.
Complications at the school arose after previous head Mr Jacobs announced at least 15 teaching jobs would be made redundant due to the declining pupil numbers.
Mr May said: “Governors have been very impressed with the way Mr Fieldhouse has performed since he became acting headteacher in February and the changes he has already made to the school.
“He has some exciting ideas about how to lead The Chase during this time of severe financial challenge whilst providing the outstanding education all our children deserve.
“One of Mr Fieldhouse’s first jobs will be to secure an outstanding senior leadership team to ensure he has the support necessary to drive through the changes his vision brings.
“Over the next year we will be focusing on increasing our intake into Year 7 and the Sixth Form to help stabilise the financial situation whilst ensuring our teaching and learning deliver the outcomes our children deserve.”
He added The Chase remains committed to providing a ‘comprehensive’ education to all its students.
“These are challenging, yet exciting, times for The Chase and I am confident that by working together we can ensure the best for our children.”
