MORE THAN 2,200 customers visited Malvern Library in the first month of opening since the Coronavirus lockdown.

Worcestershire County Council which runs the libraries revealed the figures looked at visitors from July 4 to 31.

Overall across the county, 16,000 people headed out to their local library with The Hive being the highest at 5,400.

Since re-opening, Libraries have also provided much needed digital access to local residents, recording more than 1,500 unique computer sessions during the period.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, the council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “I’m really pleased with the figures since the re-opening, it’s great to see that our libraries remain popular despite the testing times we’re in.”

She thanked libraries staff for their hard work and dedication which enabled the venues to reopen safely.

“Another thank you must go to our customers, who have been great in making these figures a reality by following the current Covid-19 regulations.

“It proves once again we’re a county of library users.”

The success of the Digital Library Hub is continuing to compliment the re-opening of libraries, with another fantastic set of figures for the last month.

The total number of e-issues including e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines for July (17,092) was the highest ever such calendar-month total for Worcestershire Libraries.

Compared with the same time last year, July’s new digital memberships total was up by over 300 per cent.

The total of new memberships for the Digital Library Hub since March 23 (1,447) is 315.8 per cent higher than the total for the same period last year (348).
