A REAL Madrid footballer caused a stir among fans and teammates when he turned up to training in an iconic Morgan 3 Wheeler.
Alvaro Arbeloa bucked the trend of rolling up in a super car which is the norm with most high profile players, by arriving in the Malvern-made motorcar.
One of the club’s Twitter fan pages @RMadridHome recognised the occasion and posted a picture of the former Liverpool player to their 42,000 followers which said: “This is how Alvaro Arbeloa arrived for training today. This is awesome.”
The 3 Wheeler was the first car built by Morgan Motors in 1909 and was reintroduced by the Pickersleigh Road company in 2011 following a 60 year absence.
The latest model carries the same iconic shape but is underpinned with modern features. A total of 1,300 have been built in the last three years and sold all over the world.
A spokesman for the company said: “As one of the most high profile players in world football we are immensely proud to have welcomed Alvaro into the Morgan family.
“The unique 3 Wheeler attracts some very interesting and high profile customers, of which Alvaro is one of the most famous.
“He has owned the car for a while but his recent trip to the Real Madrid training ground in the 3 Wheeler has caused a real storm on social media and in the press.
“The interest in the 3 Wheeler and the positive energy shown towards Mr Arbeloa owning the car reinforces the global demand and excitement that the 3 Wheeler has created.”
Incidentally Arbeloa’s teammate Christiano Ronaldo, the current world footballer of the year, arrived to training in his brand new McLaren MP4 – 12C the following day.
