MALVERN’S MP has been promoted to the role of City Minister in the Treasury as part of the new Conservative Government.

Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, becomes Economic Secretary to the Treasury and will work closely with Chancellor George Osborne and his team.

They will oversee issues including financial services regulation, foreign exchange reserves and City affairs.

Mrs Baldwin worked in the financial services industry as a pension fund manager before she became an MP.

“I was delighted to be asked to take on this role and be part of the Government as we continue to deliver on our long-term economic plan,” she said.

“This has been a tremendous week for me. To be returned with an increased majority was wonderful news and the promotion really is a terrific bonus.

“I am grateful to all the people of West Worcestershire who voted to return me to Parliament and want to reassure them I will remain as accessible as before, and will continue to raise issues with Ministers, handle casework and run my regular surgery sessions.

“I look forward to getting grips with this new role and helping to playing a part in securing the country’s economic future.”
