MP urges Malvern farmers to investigate support fund

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has urged local farmers to investigate whether they could qualify for a fund which helps people manage land in a protected landscape.

The fund allows people who work land within the Malvern Hills area or Bredon Hill could qualify for extra support to improve carbon capture or to reduce flood risk.

Nearly £90 million has been allocated to projects since it was launched in 2021.

The Farming in Protected Landscapes programme is a part of the Agricultural Transition Plan announced by the last Government helping farmers to manage land more sustainable and deliver on the ambitions to help farmers to get the most out of their land while also enhancing the natural environment.

Dame Harriett said: “I regularly talk to farmers who tell me of the challenges of managing their land in a sustainable way and often these challenges are made harder when they work in a protected area such as the Malvern Hills or the Cotswolds.

“Although it has been running for several years and has handed out millions of pounds, I feel that it is another scheme that local farmers should know about in case they are able to benefit.”
