MALVERN’S MP Harriett Baldwin met with pupils from across the county as part of an initiative to encourage more girls to take up engineering.

Mrs Baldwin was invited to QinetiQ in Malvern to talk to students who are considering taking up a career in science or engineering and she chatted to staff and pupils from The Chase.

The event was held as part of International Women in Engineering Day which celebrates the achievements of women who have pursued careers in engineering and technical roles.

Mrs Baldwin said: “Malvern has a tremendous history for science and innovation and we see second and third generations of scientists working in and around the town at the cutting edge of research.

“Events like this are great for telling the story to the next generation of brilliant brains and I was delighted to be invited to talk to not only pupils but also some of the rising stars in QinetiQ who already have fulfilling engineering careers right here on our doorstep in the heart of cyber valley.

“Some of the best paid starting salaries can be had in engineering roles and I hope that one or two young people were inspired by this event to choose a technical path towards a successful future.”
