Mum left speechless by shop's flooring donation

A MALVERN mum was speechless when a generous town businessman donated free designer flooring to kit out the new bedroom of her daughter, who has Cerebral Palsy.

Ann Bell said she was simply making enquiries at Heritage Floors and Furniture in Barnards Green when the owner Pete Westmacott told her she could have hundreds of pounds worth of material for nothing.

The mum from Baxters Walk was bowled over by the kind act.

Her daughter Isabelle was born prematurely at 27 weeks, and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy within two months.

The condition affects the five-year-old’s arms and legs and means Isabelle struggles to sit up unaided, talk and hold things.

Ann has just had an extension built on her home so her daughter could have her own ground floor bedroom to avoid struggling up and down the stairs.

However, the cost of the floor was posing a problem.

She told The Observer: “It has been a big challenge for us ever since Isabelle was born.

“My partner Andrew works part-time to support her so we are on a low income and the cost of the floor was so expensive.

“I was asking about the prices in the shop and he said we’ve got this you can have.

“I can’t explain how it feels when someone says that.  We’re over the moon.”

Mr Westmacott said he was more than happy to donate the designer Karndean flooring worth £600.

The material is particularly hard wearing and durable which will suit Isabelle’s needs.

“Ann came in looking at the flooring and she mentioned her little girl.

“I just thought I would do it.

“The commercial stuff is pretty harsh so I told her I would give her something better.

“You have got to help people sometimes.

“In the past I have been in difficult situations and people have helped me.”
