Mum's effort is full of beans

A MALVERN-born mum hopes her new flavour will tickle the tastebuds of the UK’s crisp lovers and help her scoop a £1million jackpot.

Emma Cooper, who lived with her husband Andrew for a number of years at Link top, is one of the finalists in Walkers crisps ‘Do Us a Flavour’ competition.

Her ‘Cheesy Beans on Toast’ flavour was chosen as one of the finalists in the competition which attracted a staggering 1.2million entries.

Each flavour was chosen by a judging panel of experts including chief judges David Walliams and Marco Pierre White and if she triumphs, Emma will scoop the £1million top prize.

Emma told the Observer her creation came to life following her pregnancy with her baby daughter last year.

“Cheese and beans is a classic combination and a cupboard staple. It’s one of my favourite meals and beans on toast got me through my pregnancy.

“We now have an eight month old baby daughter and I suffered with terrible sickness throughout my whole pregnancy and became lactose intolerant, which meant I had to give up one of my favourite things to eat, cheese.

“It also meant I found things I could eat and stuck with them, hence practically living on beans on toast for nine months,” she added.

Emma and her husband now live in Walton Cardiff, Tewkesbury but the kind-hearted mum admitted she hadn’t got too carried away with thinking about the £1million top prize.

“Obviously there are six of us in the competition and we all have as much chance as each other of becoming the winner,” she said.

“I do know that if we were to win though we would buy a nice family home in the country with a bit of land as that’s something we’ve always talked about.

“Since I’ve been able to tell everyone I’m one of the finalists we’ve experienced nothing but support from friends, family, friends of friends and family and even strangers who have tried the crisps and loved them.”

The caring mum admitted it would not have been fair to pick her favourite from the other flavours on offer as she is a vegetarian and has not tried them all.

Malvern crisp lovers can pick up a packet of Cheesy Beans on Toast as well as Sizzling Steak Fajita, Chip Shop Chicken Curry, Hot Dog with Tomato Ketchup, Pulled Pork in a Sticky BBQ Sauce and Ranch Raccoon.

The new flavours will sit alongside traditional Walkers favourites until October when the overall winner of the public vote will be announced.
