ST WULSTAN’S Nature Reserve, in Upper Welland, has been voted as one of the best green spaces in the country.

The area, which belongs to Worcestershire County Council, is one of three in the county to be given the Green Flag Award as part of the Keep Britain Tidy scheme.

The reserve was one of 114 parks and green spaces across the West Midlands which were judged.

The Green Flag Awards are judged by an army of more than 700 green-space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, who is responsible for localism and communities, said she was absolutely delighted to hear the news.

She added: “This award recognises and highlights people in Worcestershire are benefiting from green spaces of the very highest quality.”
