A VOLUNTEER at the NCT Malvern Hills branch has been recognised for her hard work and dedication at a top awards ceremony.
Mair Sherliker won Practitioner of the Year for the West Midlands region at the NCT Stars Awards.
The annual awards celebrate those who make a huge contribution to the charity’s work by providing services and supporting parents and parents-to-be across the country at an incredibly important time in their lives.
The Practitioner of the Year award is for an NCT practitioner who, either through their paid practitioner or volunteer roles, has gone above and beyond expectations and made a significant impact on parents’ lives and well-being.
In the last year alone Mair, and her fellow counsellor Frances Thurlow, has helped 265 families by providing breastfeeding support.
Mair and Frances run Baby Latte, a regular support group at the Malvern Vale Community Centre on Thursdays and at the Riverboats Children’s Centre in Upton-upon-Severn on Wednesdays.
They also undertake home visits.
Mair and the other ten regional Practitioner of the Year winners will go through to the national judging section, with the winner announced at a glitzy ceremony in London on November 4.
Meanwhile, the Mondays up the Malvern team, a popular family walking group which has celebrated its first birthday, won the Volunteer Team of the Year award for the West Midlands.
More than 5,000 votes were cast across all regions for the 96 shortlisted nominations in the Volunteer of the Year, Practitioner of the Year and Volunteer Team of the Year categories.
