STAFF at a new care home in Malvern are busy preparing for its first Christmas, making sure residents do not feel lonely on the big day.
Howbury House on Pickersleigh Grove became a residential care home in October this year.
More than a dozen carers and care home workers will give up time to come into Howbury House and look after the new residents around the clock during the festive period.
Jacqueline Creese, Howbury House manager said: “We want to make this first Christmas in Howbury a special one.
“It’s not easy being away from family and alone at Christmas, I am very grateful for the staff who will be coming in to make it a happy time for everyone here.”
Worcestershire was recently ranked second in the country for the quality of its local care services and the number of providers assessed as Good or Excellent by the independent Care Quality Commission.
Council chiefs are urging Worcestershire residents to spare thought for those who have to work or spend time away from family on Christmas Day.
Sheila Blagg, responsible for Adult Social Care at Worcestershire County Council, added: “In Worcestershire hundreds of social workers, care assistants, home care workers, carers and volunteers will give up their Christmas Day to offer care and support.
“Those working during the festive season and particularly on Christmas Day are very dedicated staff who look after vulnerable adults day in day out and I am sure they will make this Christmas a very happy occasion including for all of our new residents at Howbury House.
“Care work is extremely satisfying and our dedicated staff and the staff of our providers understand the vital role they play in delivering important services to some of the most vulnerable individuals in society and keeping people independent.
“We value them and thank them for giving their time at Christmas making this special for so many people.”
