THE NEW chairman of Malvern Hills District Council has said she was ‘delighted and honoured’ to be elected as the district’s first citizen.
Coun Barbara Williams, councillor for the Martley ward, was elected into the role at the council’s annual meeting last Tuesday (May 19).
She takes over from outgoing chairman Coun Mike Morgan.
Coun Williams selected the Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK as her chosen charities.
“I am delighted and honoured to be elected as chairman for Malvern Hills District Council and I would like to thank Mike Morgan for all the hard work he put in last year,” she said.
“I am really looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead and I have lots of activities planned to support local community projects and help drive the district forward.
“Having Cancer Research UK as one of my charities was a very personal choice for me as I lost my husband and many family members and friends to cancer.”
Coun John Raine, councillor for West Malvern, was elected vice-chairman for the year.
