RISING film star Dan Hough, who came to fame in 2024 after staring in Speak No Evil revisits the films location – the Malvern Hills.
Blumhouse began principal photography on the film at a secret rural location, filming for nine weeks in the heart of Worcestershire after an initial week in Europe.
Speak No Evil went on to become a critical and commercial success, starring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy.
Dan Hough played Ant, a role discovered and signed by Malvern-based casting agent Tarquin Shaw-Young of Tarquin Talent Agency.
Since then, Dan’s career has accelerated rapidly: for the past two years he has played Arlo in Hollyoaks and was recently nominated for Best Young Performer at the London Film Critics’ Awards.
Tarquin Shaw-Young returned with Dan Hough to the original filming locations to create a short documentary, Speak No Evil Revisited.
The film retraces the physical and emotional journey of revisiting a place that shaped both a career and a childhood.
Standing by the pond at the entrance to the farmhouse used as a key location, Tarquin Shaw-Young asked Dan what it felt like to be back.
“It’s weird — it’s very strange,” Dan said.
“It hasn’t changed at all, and that’s quite nice. I spent nine weeks here, and at the end of it I just had to leave. Coming back and seeing it unchanged feels really nostalgic.”
Beyond the buildings, the surrounding hills play a striking role in Speak No Evil. Much of the landscape was used exactly as it stood.
“We were incredibly lucky to be filming somewhere so beautiful,” said Dan
“Being on real locations instead of a studio really helped with the authenticity. And when we weren’t doing schoolwork, it was a great place to relax.”
