New Malvern market 'exceeding expectations' after hundreds visit first trade session

MALVERN’s new weekly market has already ‘exceeded expectations’ according to delighted bosses after its first trade session over the weekend.

Malvern Cube chiefs have been left over the moon after around 300 people packed into the market on Saturday to buy items and view what was on offer.

Saturday’s market was the first of its kind in Malvern for many years with around a dozen stalls selling local produce and other fun and quirky items.

Predominantly set up to be a food market, organisers told the Observer there had been so much demand that they made a decision to open up the market for non-food stall holders.

On the day around ten stalls were set up around the Albert Road North community centre with bosses looking to have even more stalls for visitors in weeks to come.

And Saturday’s session proved a real success with visitors packing into the community centre’s Theatre Hall throughout the day.

A delighted market manager Alison Chapman said: “We are thrilled with the start that has been made, it has exceeded expectations and gave us a great base for which to work from.

“The challenge now is to maintain that standard and keeping it going on a weekly basis. There’s a lot of work to do yet but it is a very promising start.

“Given the fact we have had little time in setting up this market, I’m delighted with how it went. It was great to see people staying and coming in and out throughout the day.

“At one stage I went to the Malvern Cube Cafe and it was packed and there was nowhere to sit down.”

The market returns for its second session between 9am and 2pm on Saturday.
