New Malverns' 'Green Tracker' to help businesses reduce their carbon emissions

Malvern Editorial 30th Jun, 2023   0

MALVERN Hills District Council (MHDC) has launched an innovative online system to help organisations reduce their carbon emissions.

The first of its kind in the United Kingdom, The Malverns’ Green Tracker is a free system available for local tourism and hospitality business.

The system is aimed at helping the district continue its journey to net zero and enhance reputations with customers as well as saving cash along the way.

Malvern is striving to become a recognised tourist green destination and it is hoped this new system will help achieve that goal.

Malvern Hills District Council is encouraging local tourism and hospitality businesses to be serious about sustainability.

The online tracker has been developed in partnership with sustainability experts from RHP Ltd, a business which carries out destination health checks on areas widely affected by tourism.

By monitoring and benchmarking a business’ amount of water, energy and waste, it is hoped tourism experiences will become more exciting and memorable.

The tracker also includes a step-by-step guide for attractions, hotels and self-catering accommodation to encourage them to pay more attention to a sustainable approach to their business.

The council is offering free business support via RHP Ltd to help businesses get set up and use the new online system.

Sustainable tourism grants for business have also helped in becoming a greener industry with grants providing energy audits, electric car sharing points and low energy hand dryers.

Coun Beverley Nielsen, Malvern Hills District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Economic Development, said: “The launch of The Malverns Green Tracker is an exciting opportunity for tourism businesses to embrace greener practices and to also help them to save money by reducing their energy usage.

Michelle Rowe, Director at RHP Ltd, added: “We are so pleased to be working with Malvern Hills District Council to introduce Green Tracker and we can’t wait to start supporting businesses with this exciting project.

“We hope our innovative platform will bridge the gap between green ambition and results, and that the jargon-busting, step-by-step actions and monitoring capabilities will give organisations easy access to the tools they need for a sustainable future.”
