New police cadets wanted

YOUNGSTERS interested in a future career in the police force have been encouraged to apply to become a cadet later this year.

West Mercia Police Cadets is now recruiting new members for its September intake with the force looking to sign up 14 new cadets for each policing area it covers.

Youngsters aged 16 who will have finished secondary school education by September this year can apply to become a cadet.

Cadets take part in a variety of activities including self-defence training, marching, fitness and role-playing as well as taking part in team building and outward bounds weekends.

Meeting every Thursday night at Tudor Grange Academy in Worcester, they also gain a valuable insight into police life through talks by guest speakers from different departments of the force and agencies as well as taking part in community policing events.

By doing these activities they develop discipline, friendship and teamwork and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference to their community and developing themselves for a future career.

To apply, applicants will need to fill in an application form, attend a formal interview and take part in the Police Initial Recruitment Test.

Application forms, which are available to download from West Mercia Police’s website, must be submitted by April 6. Visit www.westmercia.police.uk/policecadets/ for more information.
