New signs installed around Malvern as new heritage project takes shape

Malvern Editorial 20th Dec, 2016   0

A NEW landmark has appeared on the streets of Malvern as the project to create a new heritage trail for the town takes shape.

The Great Malvern: Route to the Hills project took a significant step forward recently with the first set of signs installed in key places along the trail including Priory Park, Belle Vue island and Rose bank gardens.

On one side, the 7ft signs mark the location while the other sides contains stories relating to a particular piece of Malvern’s fascinating heritage.

Over the coming months the route – which will run from Great Malvern Railway Station, through the town and on to the hills – will take shape with the installation of building and floor plaques, finger posts, benches and specially designed artwork.

The three year project is being mainly funded by a £482,800 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and is overseen by ten key organisations, led by Malvern Hills District Council.

The project, which looks to showcase Malvern’s proud history, will also include a series of exhibitions, community activities and events.

Coun David Watkins, Chairman of the Great Malvern: Route to the Hills Partnership Board, said: “After several years of planning and consultation, it is exciting to see the Route to the Hills become a reality.

“These signs tell the wonderful stories of Malvern whilst helping to guide people around the town. I look forward to seeing more of the route as it emerges.”
