THE BOSSES of one of Malvern’s biggest outdoor events in the calendar have made a decision to restrict visitor numbers for this April’s show by up to 2,000 following criticism received last year.
For the first time in the show’s history, the CountryTastic show – held at The Three Counties Showground – will only be open for those who have purchased an advanced ticket with only a maximum crowd of 5,000 being allowed
through the gates.
Tickets will not be available to buy on the day of the show as has been the case previously.
The show, which will be held this year on Thursday, April 13, provides an action-packed day of farmyard fun featuring a menagerie of farmyard animals.
In recent years and will be the case again this year, BBC Countryfile and Cotswold Farm park favourite Adam Henson has headlined the show.
Last year’s event saw a record crowd of 7,000 pack themselves to the picturesque outdoor venue.
But despite the event being labelled a roaring exercise, critical views were made on social media by frustrated visitors who claimed it was ‘too busy’.
In response Three Counties Showground bosses said they would consider making changes to its ticket policy.
Fuming visitors commented on Three Counties’ Facebook Page.
Kelly Sowande said: “Yes it was extremely busy which impacted on the enjoyment of the event.
“I am a wheelchair user and it was almost impossible to get around and see things. Glad to see you are taking measures to address this for future Countrytastic events.”
And last Monday, Three Counties bosses revealed the changes considered were now in operation.
On the show’s website, those looking at buying tickets are told: “Limited tickets available, to avoid disappointment book today (tickets must be booked in advance, tickets not available to buy on the day).
“Please keep checking the website for updates on ticket availability.”
Diana Walton, Head of Shows for Three Counties said: “Following the success of last year’s event, we
have taken the decision to limit ticket numbers to ensure we deliver the very best visitor experience to everyone.
“Rest assured there are plenty of tickets available in advance, with a total of 5,000 tickets on sale.
“We urge families to book ahead to avoid disappointment and also spread the word amongst their friends as we will not be selling tickets on the gate. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our great day out taking place on
Thursday 13 April.”
Tickets cost £8 for adults (aged 16 and over) and £5 for under 16s. Under 4s are allowed in for free but will still need an advanced ticket.
