New care home on former Malvern Hospital site will create 75 jobs

AN £8million state-of-the-art care home being built in Great Malvern will create 75 new jobs

Windsor Court, on course to be opened this summer by the Maria Mallaband Care Group, will provide a five-star care environment, with 51-ensuite rooms, lounges restaurants, and communal areas.

There will also be a bistro and bar, hair salon, and eight seat cinema which will be open to the community as well as residents (restrictions permitting).

Annelli Chatfield, Maria Mallaband Care Group’s commissioning manager, said: “Ensuring our homes are part of the communities they serve is central to our approach, and that is the driving force behind this new concept for Windsor Court.

“Not only can people living and working there make use of the fantastic facilities on offer, but they will also be open to the wider community too, whether that is family members and friends coming to spend time with their loved ones, or anyone else who might want to enjoy what is on offer.”

The private care home, designed for residential, nursing and dementia care is under construction by specialist nursing home contractor Lawrence Baker Ltd on the site of the disused Malvern Community Hospital in Landsdowne Crescent which closed in 2011.

As well as responding to the need for social care within the community, the importance of which the pandemic has made abundantly clear, the new home will also create jobs for up to 75 members of staff, including carers, qualified nurses and administrators.

Ms Chatfield added: “The location is absolutely second to none. It’s at the heart of a residential community, within walking distance of a bustling town with all its amenities, and sits against the stunning backdrop of the Malvern Hills, which will be visible from the windows of most bedrooms to the rear of the building.

“By virtue of its location, size, design, and facilities Windsor Court will be elevated beyond the ordinary.

“With a luxury feel throughout, right down to the furnishings and finishes and the menus in the restaurant, it is going to be a truly special home.”

Traditionally styled, in keeping with its surroundings, the new care home will be set over three floors and set within landscaped grounds.

As part of the project, the original boundary wall and a summer house in the grounds of the old hospital have been restored and retained, retaining something of the building’s heritage.

A showroom on nearby Church Street has a mock-uo if a bedroom and the corner of a lounge has been created to give people a sense of how the new home will look and feel.

The showroom, operating in a Covid-safe way, remains open as per the current lockdown restrictions and the care home group is already taking enquiries about places.
