NIGHT works are to begin this week as part of the ongoing improvements to Southern Link Road.
From Monday (today) to Friday between 8pm and 6am, work will start on the removal of overhead Western Power cables and the installation of ducts and drainage tunnels close to the Norton roundabout on the A4440 Norton to Ketch carriageway.
Traffic lights with single lane operations will also be in place during the work hours on the Norton to Ketch part of the A4440.
The Southern Link Road programme is said to be one of the biggest upgrades to road infrastructure in Worcestershire for many years and was identified as one of the highest priorities to tackle the high levels of traffic.
The road is used by almost 30,000 vehicles each weekday and suffers from severe congestion at peak times.
Benefits of delivering the scheme include improving the transport links and infrastructure which would boost the local economy, contribute towards reducing congestion in the city centre and surrounding residential areas, reduce journey times and improve journey time reliability.
Funding for the road works comes from a number of sources including £16.4million from Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership as part of the Government’s Growth Deal and £16.3million allocated from the South Worcestershire Urban Extension development programme.
