Nominations sought for new Positive Change of the Year Award

Malvern Editorial 24th Apr, 2017   0

RESIDENTS are being urged to nominate friends and family who have transformed their lives through taking up sport or physical activity for a new award.

The ‘Positive Change of the Year Award’ is a new category for this year’s Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards.

It has been created to recognise the power sport and physical activity has to transform the lives of those who take part.

Nominees could include someone who has gone from sitting on the sofa to running 5k and is now reaping the health benefits or a group which has helped combat loneliness by bringing people together through sport and physical activity.

Groups as well as individuals can be nominated for the award with the winners announced during a ceremony on Thursday, July 13.

For the first time the awards are being held at the Bank House Hotel due to the growing popularity of the event.

Thirteen awards will be presented on the night which will be attended by more than 200 guests and hosted by BBC Hereford and Worcester drive time presenter Andrew Easton.

The awards are run by Malvern Hills District Council, headline sponsored by Freedom Leisure and produced by Malvern-based AN Event Services.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for healthier communities on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Sport and physical activity has the power to truly transform lives by bringing people together in a way they wouldn’t otherwise have been, improve their mental health and wellbeing, as well as their physical health.

“I know there will be many people across the district with inspiring stories worthy of recognition and I’d urge people to nominate them for this award.”

Nominations forms are available to download from www.malvernhills.gov.uk/sports-awards.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 26.

Any companies or organisations who would like to sponsor an award should email [email protected] for more information.
