AN ONLINE forum for women living with heart disease has been opened.
The British Heart Foundation virtual Women’s Room is aimed at the 327,000 in the West Midlands affected by heart and circulatory conditions, which kill 120 women in Malvern Hills each year.
The charity hopes to dispel myths only men are affected, with the aim of allowing residents to share their experiences and find information about telling colleagues, family and friends, dealing with work issues and how to cope if upset or stressed.
Maureen Talbot, BHF senior cardiac nurse, said: “Coronary heart disease kills nearly three times as many women as breast cancer. Yet as a society we continue to prop up the myth that heart problems are just for men.
“As a result women often feel very isolated when they’re diagnosed with a heart condition. We want to shout from the rooftops that if you’re a woman living with heart disease you are not alone.”
