Picnic will toast volunteers

Malvern Editorial 5th Jun, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

VOLUNTEERS across the district are set to be rewarded for their selfless work.

A Picnic in the Park will be hosted by Malvern Hills District Council, in partnership with Malvern Hills Volunteering, on Saturday (June 6) to mark national Volunteers’ Week.

The event, held at Priory Park, will provide organisations with the opportunity to bring along volunteers and thank them for the time and effort they put in throughout the year.

During 2014/15 people across the Malvern Hills District donated more than 2,400 hours of their time and Ann Bowker, a member of the Malvern Hills Conservators, is one of those to be recognised.

Ann helped set up and implement a dormouse survey on the hills in 2006 and now dedicates her time to monitoring two sites for the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme.

“I would encourage others to help with monitoring work or to join the Conservator volunteers,” she said.

Long-standing volunteer Brian Davies has been part of the Malvern Hills Conservators for more than 15 years and has also encouraged his family to get involved.

For the last five years Brian has committed to being a voluntary site warden on Chase End Hill.

“The fitness, friendships and work satisfaction have all been very beneficial,” he added.
