Plans for Malvern cable cars to be discussed

Malvern Editorial 11th Feb, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

PLANS to build a cable car system on the ‘iconic’ Malvern Hills will be discussed at a meeting tonight (Thursday).

The Malvern Hills Conservators, the charity which owns and protects the hills, are set to talk about the proposals which have been tabled by the Malvern for All group.

Current plans would see the car operate from land to the south of Rose Bank Gardens to a point just below the summit of the Worcestershire Beacon.

The system would require a base terminal building with coach parking and at least three pylons on the hills, along with overhead cables.

Helen Stace, chairman of the board of Conservators, said: “The Conservators were established by Parliament to preserve the natural beauty of the hills and keep them free of buildings and encroachment.

“This development would clearly have a significant impact on this iconic landscape which would appear to be entirely at odds to the core purpose of our acts.”

The meeting will take place at 7pm at the Council Chamber on Avenue Road. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
