Plates thefts sparks warning

Malvern Editorial 1st May, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS have been warned to stay vigilant following a spate of number plate thefts in Malvern.

All of the incidents happened overnight on April 11 and 12 on Cowleigh Bank and police have since linked the crimes.

A total of three offences were reported and fears were raised by officers who have said the stolen plates could be used to commit crime.

The first incident happened between 8pm and 12.30pm when the front and rear plates, which were attached via sticky pads, were taken from a Hyundai vehicle.

A silver Toyota also had its front plate taken between 9pm and 10am and a third vehicle was targeted and saw its rear plate removed between 5.40pm and 8.23am.

Police have advised residents they can deter the theft by buying security screws for number plates which makes it ‘almost impossible’ to remove them.

Anyone with further information on the offences can contact officers on the non-emergency number 101 or by calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
