Play set to question intolerance in the run up to General Election

POLITICAL extremism is set to be brought to life as one of the world’s most performed playwrights will see his production come to Malvern.

Athol Fugard’s Playland will hit the stage of the Malvern Cube on Friday, March 6, as part of a nationwide tour which is also set to provoke debate around intolerance in the run up to the 2015 General Election.

Directed by Jack McNamara, production company New Perspectives will showcase the brutal regime in the heart of rural South Africa when a black amusement park nigh-watchman comes face to face with a white ex-serviceman.

Mr McNamara said: “It feels like an important time to tour this particular play, with the rise of UKIP and the upcoming election.

“As a rarely seen work by one of the most important playwrights in world history, an urban environment might have been a more expected route for it, however I passionately believe this is a subject that needs to be brought into the heart of the country to open up discussions about where fear and intolerance can lead up.”

The production kicks off at 7.30pm. Contact Jane Verity by emailing [email protected] or call 07854 759480 for tickets.
