RESIDENTS are being urged to be on their guard after a man was seen trying front door handles in Malvern Hills District.
The incidents happened on Tuesday in Christine Avenue, Rushwick.
West Mercia Police have offered a series of tips to help people deal with cold callers on the doorstep.
And they have urged people to pass on the advice to vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.
If person knocks on their door, residents should look through a window or peep-hole to see who the person is.
If they are not someone the householder knows or trusts or a business caller with a pre-arranged appointment, then do not open the door.
Even if the caller is in uniform or wearing an ID card, the advice still applies.
People should tell unexpected business callers to leave and come back later at an agreed time when they can have someone else with you.
In the meantime, their credentials can be checked by calling the organisation they claim to represent. Look up the number online or in a phone book rather than relying on a card they have handed out – as it the details could be false.
Report any suspicious activity to the police – no matter how small it seems. Officers would rather be called about something which turns out to be legitimate, rather than missing the chance to prevent a crime or catch a person up to no good.
