West Mercia Police crime prevention advice

Officers have urged people to take precautions to ensure they do not become victims of crime.

They should ensure vehicles are locked and alarmed and consider dash cams.

All valuable items should be removed overnight and taken to a secure location.

At home put lights on timers so they come on when it gets dark – unlit homes let criminals know the y are empty.

Doors, patios and downstairs windows should always be locked – when people are at home and especially when they go to bed.

Those with burglar alarms should set them when they go to bed and car keys, ID cards and valuables should not be left near windows doors or letterboxes as people can reach in to steal them.

Garden gates and side entrances should be locked and tools should not be left lying around in the garden.

Residents should also consider CCTV and SmartWater which has a unique DNA-style code so if valuables are stolen they can be tracked and returned if found.
