FARMYARD machinery and 100 bails of hay have been destroyed following a blaze in Kempsey at the weekend.
At about 4pm on Saturday, an unknown person is believed to have set fire to an outer building at Middle Broomhall Farm off the A38.
No-one was injured in the incident but the building containing the hay bails and farmyard machinery was destroyed.
Enquiries are currently ongoing and officers are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the fire, but it is believed it may have been started deliberately.
Investigating officer, PC Peters of Evesham Police Station, said “I attended the scene and saw at first hand the devastation this incident has caused the farmer and his family.
“This tragedy was completely unnecessary and will grossly affect the livelihood of the farmer.
“We believe the fire is the result of a callous and selfish act by an individual or group of individuals.
“I appeal to them and hope they realise that the right thing to do is come forward and take responsibility for their actions.”
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw people acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 520s of June 3.
