Police are out on car boot patrol

A CAR boot seller has been banned from future events after she stole a lamp and sold it on.

The 38-year-old thief was caught by police on patrol at the Ketch Car Boot Sale last Sunday (May 17) as Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Teams launched a mini-operation at the events.

The operation sees a regular police presence at the sales around the Malvern Hills, including Monksfield and The Ketch, running from May 1 through the summer months.

Officers received a report from a stallholder who had a table lamp stolen from his stall and within five minutes the item had been located and the thief was dealt with by police and banned by the organisers from attending further sales in that location.

PC Susan Parr said: “The victim described the stolen item to the officers but admitted he wasn’t expecting them to do anything about it due to the amount of time which had elapsed since he had noticed it missing.

“Within five minutes officers spotted a man carrying a lamp matching the description given by the victim.

“The man carrying the lamp had unwittingly purchased it from another stall, so while one officer kept watch of the seller’s stall, the second officer took the lamp to the victim, which he positively identified as being the one stolen from him.

“The victim was amazed to have his lamp back and the couple who had purchased it from the other stall were given their money back.”
