Police execute speed enforcement operations in bid to alleviate residents' concerns

SPEEDING motorists were caught doing 40 mph in a 30 zone during a speed enforcement operation in Malvern on Thursday (July 20).

The operation carried out by Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Team resulted in two drivers being reported for speeding offences, both of whom will have to attend court or complete a speed awareness course.

The two drivers were driving at speeds of 38 and 40 mph in a 30 zone.

Other motorists responsible for minor infringements were given a warning and words of advice.

Officers PC Malnati and PC Olczak were responsible for the enforcement operation and were acting on concerns from residents about the speed and manor of driving along the road.

The police regard these speed enforcement operations hugely important due to the dangers of speeding.

A pedestrian hit by a vehicle at 40mph as opposed to 30mph can be the difference between life and death.

Stopping distance – the time it takes for a motorist to recognise a hazard (thinking distance) and the time it takes the vehicle to stop (braking distance) – is also a massive contributory factor to the dangers of speeding for other motorists and pedestrians.

Across the entire West Mercia Policing area, officers are often carrying out similar types of operations to tackle the problem of dangerous drivers.
