Police warning as bogus callers, claiming to be from Severn Trent, target Malvern residents

Malvern Editorial 3rd Nov, 2020   0

MALVERN residents are being warned to be on their guard after police received reports about a bogus caller in the district claiming to be from Severn Trent.

The two men have been knocking on the doors of elderly people, offering to check for blockages in drains.

Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Team wants residents to be aware this is happening and to warn any elderly or vulnerable neighbours, friends or family members so they do not get duped.

Police warn that although many legitimate businesses sell products door-to-door and gas, electricity and water company representatives need to visit to read meters and charities will often call seeking donations, people need to be aware of fraudsters.

Callers can sometimes con their way into homes to take cash and valuables or important information that can be used for financial gain at a later date.

Anyone with any information on these incidents or other frauds or attempted frauds should call police on 101.
