MALVERN residents are being warned to be on their guard after reports of rogue traders operating in the town.
The incident happened in Tayson Way on March 30 but police believe it may not be an isolated incident, saying the cold callers often increase their activity in the spring.
The rogue traders are known to knock on doors asking if work needs doing, such as trimming back bushes and hedges, general gardening, roofing or surfacing driveways.
They often cite that they have spotted a problem and offer to put it right. However, when completed, not only is the work often of poor quality but they also try to charge extortionate amounts of cash for it.
Sometimes the rogue trader may offer to accompany their victim to the bank to withdraw funds for the work.
Police advise people not to accept work from cold callers or leaflets posted through the door and instead choose a trusted contractor.
Officers urge residents not to be fooled by cold callers who look professional with business cards and sign-written vehicles.
“Get recommendations from friends or family and get at least two quotes for any work you intend to get done.”

“Do not be pressured into accepting work. If a trades person becomes intimidating or oppressive then politely decline any work, close and lock your doors and if necessary report the matter to the police.”
Elderly and vulnerable residents are most at risk from this type of activity so please ensure you make your neighbours aware of this issue.
