A WARNING has been issued by police that the riding of scrambler-style off-road electric e-bikes will not be tolerated on the Malvern Hills.
It comes after several reports of the bikes being used anti-socially.
The bikes do not have pedals and are classified as mechanically propelled vehicles, which are not permitted on any part of the Malvern Hills.
Police state, unless the bikes have tax, insurance and a valid displayed number plate they are also not permitted on the roads.
The group (pictured) who have been on the bikes in the Hills area are reported to have assaulted a mountain bike rider who challenged them.
Malvern Police officers will be conducting increased high visibility patrols around the areas where these bikes have been spotted. Police have stated the bikes will be seized and likely destroyed.
West Mercia Police added: “This behavior will not be tolerated and anyone found riding these bikes will be dealt with robustly.
“Anyone purchasing one of these bikes should be well aware that they are not permitted to be ridden on bridal paths and footpaths.
“As such we will not be giving a warning to the riders.
“We will take positive action in dealing with these offenders who are having a detrimental effect on the countryside and the people enjoying the hills legally.”
