A COMMUNITY choir has done its bit to help a very popular youngster walk unaided for the first time.

Powick Community Choir raised £450 to the Help Georgie campaign which aims to raise vital funds to transform the life of three-year-old Georgie Gibbs.

Georgie suffers from spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and her determined family last year launched a £60,000 campaign to help fund a life-changing operation across the pond which would enable the brave youngster to walk unaided.

But a big change to circumstances has meant Georgie can undergo the operation in England and is due to have the big op in Bristol on Monday (February 22).

The family were recently informed Georgie had been accepted to be part of the Commissioning Through Evaluation (CtE) trial taking place at the hospital this financial year.

Georgie and her family made a recent visit to the Powick Choir Community headquarters to collect a cheque of £450.

The choir’s Musical Director Tom Wells said: “Georgie popped along to a choir rehearsal and it is safe to say she stole all our hearts.

“We hope that our financial contribution will help towards reaching the day when Georgie can walk unaided.”

With the operation now taking place in England, the money raised will go towards help paying for vital specialist physiotherapy sessions following Georgie’s operation.

Georgie’s mum Clare, 41, told the Observer she and her family have been overwhelmed by the support they have received.

She said: “The support we have received has been totally overwhelming, we are so grateful to everybody.

“Georgie is now a little celebrity and we gets loads of people coming to us to see how she is getting on.

“To have received £450 from Powick Community Choir was absolutely fantastic and it was so nice how they made us feel so welcome to their rehearsal.”

Powick Community Choir, which consists of around 80 members, has recently provided other charities with much-needed financial support with Malvern Dementia Café and Malvern based charity ARCOS each receiving £450.
