Powick singers raise £1,000 for Macmillan

A VILLAGE choir has raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan after a series of sell-out Christmas concerts.

Eighty singers from Powick Community Choir packed out Stanbrook Abbey in Callow End accompanied by a 20 piece chamber orchestra.

The programme ranged from familiar seasonal works by Handel and John Rutter to more contemporary pieces composed by Tom Wells, the choir’s musical director.

He said: “This was our fourth Christmas visit to Stanbrook Abbey and once again it was an occasion enjoyed by everyone.

“Choir members continue to respond brilliantly to every challenge I provide for them and this was no exception.”

The choir is looking for new members ideally with some experience of part singing and an understanding of music notation.

Anyone interested can call Tom on 07702 996203.

Rehearsals begin early this month.
