Praise for Worcestershire's highways teams during tricky conditions

Malvern Editorial 15th Dec, 2017   0

HIGHWAYS chief Coun Alan Amos has heaped praise on Worcestershire’s roads teams who have worked around the clock to keep drivers moving during the bad weather.

Heavy snow at the weekend and then problems with treacherous ice on roads and footpaths have led to tricky conditions for residents.

All of Worcestershire’s gritters (28 in total) have been out each evening since the weekend, with approximately 3,000 tonnes of salt being spread in total.

Highways inspectors have also been out in the early hours of this morning, checking on the condition of roads after the gritters had been out.

Coun Amos said: “Our teams have been fantastic.

“They’ve had to get out there and work in some pretty treacherous weather conditions to make sure the rest of us can travel on the roads and stay as safe as possible.

“They are doing a great job and long may it continue.

“People who live and work in Worcestershire can be really proud of our teams who have kept people moving and that can’t be said of other areas of the country.”

The drivers, mates and supervisors worked a total of 2,376 hours over the weekend.
