STAFF and youngsters at a Malvern pre-school have been celebrating after achieving success at a national awards ceremony.

St Joseph’s Swans and Cygnets was named Highly Commended in the Most Outstanding Committee Led Pre-school category at the prestigious What’s On 4 Awards.

The awards programme, which is supported by www.babyworld.co.uk and Drayton Manor Theme Park, is now in its 8th year and celebrates the best activities, classes, volunteers and venues from throughout the UK as nominated and voted for by parents and parents-to-be.

This year the awards were bigger than ever covering 22 different categories ranging from ‘Best Pre/Post Natal Activity’ to the ‘Most Outstanding Community group Volunteer for Children’.

Votes were cast in March when parents voted online for their favourite groups, clubs, classes from the nominees which qualified.

St Joseph’s Swans and Cygnets Pre-school takes in children between 2 and five-years-old and last year celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Manager of the pre-school Judi Gallichan said: “This award is a fantastic vote of confidence by our parents. It confirms that the children are happy and well cared for in our setting.”

Mary Taylor, chair of the committee, added: “The committee consists of normal parents who discuss policies, appoint staff, set fees and organise fundraising events. This gives the wonderful staff time to concentrate on what they do best – look after the children.”
