COUNTY public health chiefs have encouraged residents to take time to thank people who have been our Covid heroes.
A tree, sponsored by Public Health, is now proudly standing in Worcester Cathedral as part of its Christmas Tree Exhibition, to thank the shining stars of the Coronavirus pandemic.
2020 has been a hugely challenging year, every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, has made a massive difference.
The shining stars are people who have shone light in this period and helped others, whether it be saving a life or popping to do the food shop for a neighbour.
Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director for Public Health in Worcestershire said: “We are delighted to highlight the wonderful acts of kindness and friendship the people of Worcestershire have shared and thank our shining stars.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has been tough for everyone, we have all had a difficult year and Christmas is a time to say thank you. We hope the Christmas tree, with thank you messages from some of the children in our county, will encourage every visitor to take a moment and consider who has been their shining stars. ”
The tree is adorned with silver stars and twinkling lights as well as thank you messages from five local schools.
Pupils from Dines Green Community Academy, Northwick Manor Primary School, Pitmaston Primary School, Perryfields Primary PRU and St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School have written thank you messages to their shining stars and even drawn pictures of them.
The tree invites us all to take a moment to breathe, read a message or two and consider who our shining star is as well as thinking about all the acts of generosity we have received this year.
You can extend your thanks to your shining star by sending a video message. These messages of gratitude will be shared in the coming days with the hashtag #ShiningStars.
The Christmas Tree Exhibition runs until January 3, booking in advance with a timed ticket is essential.
