Public opinion sought on £20 million redevelopment of Malvern Theatres

Malvern Editorial 4th Apr, 2024   0

THOSE with an opinion on the proposed £20million redevelopment of Malvern Theatres will be able to have their say during an upcoming consultation.

Residents and visitors can chip in their thoughts to the ‘Transforming Malvern’ public consultation which launches on Tuesday, April 9.

People are invited to attend Malvern Theatres from 12.30pm to 6.30pm to look at the plans and take part in a survey.

Presentations will be held at 1.30pm and 6.30pm, along with a question and answer session. The information displays with the plans will be available until Tuesday, April 16.

The ‘ambitious’ project, which has received central government funding, aims to deliver a ‘world class cultural facility’ within the district.

Phase one of the redevelopment is already complete, with a vibrant new entrance, disabled access from Grange Road and a new toilet facility.

There is also the new, Studio One, which hosts 21 classes and counting every week, alongside youth drama productions and international cinema.

Subject to consultation and planning, phase two will see an expanding access to the arts, improving health and wellbeing for the community, increasing education and employment opportunities, and an economic uplift for the region.

The development, led by Malvern Hills District Council, may include a new amphitheatre, a modern 200+ seat theatre to host community work, flexible workshop spaces, a recording studio, an external lift and more.

Councillor John Gallagher, portfolio holder for resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to have their say and see the plans.

“The theatre is an invaluable asset to our community, and we hope the new development will enable more people to access the events this wonderful facility has to offer.”

The deadline for comments is April 19, 2024.

Fred Moroni, executive director of Malvern Theatres, said: “Studio One has already been a fantastic addition to Malvern Theatres.

“Any redevelopment of the theatre must be driven by our community, as well as the wider needs of Malvern, and we look forward to hearing feedback on these ambitious plans.”
