CHILDREN from Malvern Wells C of E Primary School have produced their ‘Tree of Life’ to celebrate the start of this year’s Well Dressing Festival.

Today (Friday) saw staff and pupils from the school create their tree at the Jubliee Fountain on the corner of Grundy’s Lane.

The leaves, trunk and roots represent the children’s hopes, important events and important people in their lives.

A record number of 55 wells will be dressed during the festival which runs from tomorrow (Saturday) to Tuesday, May 2.

A spokesperson for the school said; “All the children took part and have done a fantastic job bringing the well to life.

“Thanks also to the teachers and staff for all their hard work and effort in organising the activities.

“A huge thank you also goes to the parents who took part in the preparation of the well.”

Well dressing is a historical local custom where the water sources are decorated to give thanks for the natural water supply.

Over the years there have been some amazing creations celebrating themes that are chosen annually.

The well dressings have attracted a lot of interest from residents and visitors to the Malvern Hills area and this year will be the biggest event yet.
