STUDENTS from the University of Wolverhampton will be showing off a variety of racing cars as part of a Morgan motor show which will be running at the Three Counties Showground this weekend.

The university’s Formula Renault racing car as well as a university liveried Morgan Plus 4 Babydoll and Morgan ARV6 will be on show at Morgan Motor Company’s Run for the Hills event which runs over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Held in association with the Morgan Sports Car Club, Run for the Hills will see the biggest get-together of Morgans since the company celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009.

The University of Wolverhampton Racing Team will offer visitors the chance to change a wheel on the Formula Renault car as well as getting the chance to sit in the racer and take pictures.

There will be freebies and giveaways on offer as well as advice and guidance for anyone considering degree level courses in Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton, who are one of the sponsors for Run for the Hills.

The collaboration between the university and Morgan, the oldest privately owned motor manufacturer in the world, provides engineering students with a range of activities and opportunities including educational programmes, research and development and motor racing.

Racing Team students work alongside Morgan craftsmen and women as they take part in the AR Motorsport Morgan Challenge Series.

The students attend every race meeting as well as preparing and testing the car at its Telford Innovation Campus.

Professor Ian Oakes, deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton, said:  “We’re delighted to be supporting the Morgan ‘Run for the Hills’ event this year.

“The Racing Team students have worked hard this year with some impressive results to show for it.

“As well as working closely with Morgan to help improve performance in the AR Morgan Challenge Series, they have competed in the F3 Cup Competition, Formula Student and the British Hill Climb Championship.

“Through our partnership with Morgan, our students are gaining hugely valuable work experience of the automotive industry.

“This exciting partnership is already having a major impact on the employability of our engineering students, which is a key focus for the University.

“We are delighted that they are gaining experience of the real world of car manufacturing at a world famous company which focuses on traditional craftsmanship coupled with modern design and engineering innovation.”

A range of ticket and accommodation packages are available for Run for the Hills including single day tickets, gala dinner tickets, weekend tickets and concert tickets.
