A RECORD crowd of around 5,000 visitors flocked to the Great Malvern Food Festival on Bank Holiday Monday.

The food extravaganza, organised by Malvern Hills District Council and supported by Boffy Arts Markets, took place in the grounds of Great Malvern Priory Church and was packed with more than 60 stalls of high quality food and drink produced in the town and surrounding areas.

Event highlights included a lively performance from the Rock Choir with more than 100 singers, the Friday Beer Company talked on stage about the brewing process and top local chefs Jason Lynas, Pam Chen Moore and Lizzy Hughes demonstrated some great mouth-watering recipes.

BBC presenter Mandi Harris also took to the stage to talk to chefs, promote local community organisations and discuss local issues.

The event also catered for children with entertainment and activities including a bushcraft cookery workshop, biscuit decorating, solving food related puzzles and lots more.

The Malvern Munch Food Walk also took place over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Sunday more than 150 walkers and volunteers enjoyed a leisurely seven-mile walk over the Malvern Hills with local food, drink and live music.

Meanwhile, Saturday provided a vintage and retro fair along Abbey Road with an eclectic mix of vintage antique and modern furniture, jewellery, collectables, clothes and objet d’art on show.

Malcolm Salisbury, economic development officer at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “The event was a fantastic success, everyone had a brilliant time in the sunshine trying all sorts of foods from Malvern to the Caribbean, and some stallholders sold out.

“It is growing year by year, and we are delighted that the turnout was so huge – it’s great for the town.”
